Learning Outcomes : Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to formulate the differential equation of motion of a simple mechanical system. They will solve the differential equation of motion for specific force cases. They will describe the dynamic behavior of a mechanical system with respect to an inertial and a non-inertial reference frame. They will use conservativity criteria to determine the conservativity of a force. They will calculate the potential energy function of a field of conservative forces. They will calculate holistic quantities of a system of particles (center of mass, total momentum, total angular momentum). They will predict the outcome of collision processes between particles using the appropriate conservation laws. They will describe the behavior of independent or coupled oscillating systems, as well as resonance phenomena, under external harmonic excitation. They will know the basic properties of mechanical waves and study their propagation in various media.
