ugh a critical sociological view. It is a prerequisite that technology is influenced by the structure and function of 27 social institutions. In pursuing the above goal, the course focuses on the major technological systems and networks that are being developed in the early 20th century as well as on the development of engineering studies in Europe and the United States. Technological systems of the early 20th century are directly related to a way of thinking and organization that will be the main subject of the course, while at the same time the engineers will be to a large extent the focus of this study. During the course an attempt is made to highlight, especially for Greece, what it means to be an engineer, whether this identity is gendered, what are the roles of engineers and their education, how they shaped their professional communities as well as what kind of production, use and ideological intake of technology were promoted in the early 20th century.

Learning Outcomes : Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: • Understand the characteristics of the technological phenomenon through the use of historical data from the early 20th century. • Gain initial substantial contact with social studies of technology and the acceptance of technology as a social construct. • Grasp the ways and processes through which technologies are selected, designed, produced, and imposed. • Understand how factory spaces are reshaped through the application of technology within them (mechanization), including the human resources operating therein. • Understand how technology is enlisted to become an instrument of control and manipulation of workers, and also how it ""silently"" transforms the human body into its ""field of action"". • Follow the emergence of engineering studies and the engineering profession, both of which monitor, influence, and are influenced by the course of the technological phenomenon. • Identify the gender dimension of technology not only at the artifact level but also through the expressions it took within the framework of industrial technologies in the large technological systems of the early 20th century.
