Learning Outcomes : Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: • understand the basic operating principles and select the appropriate magnetic and electrostatic separation machines • basic principles of ore and industrial mineral flotation, the action of reagents and apply this knowledge in the selection of appropriate reagents on a case-by-case basis and design the appropriate flotation circuit to achieve high quality concentrate with high useful recovery • processes and the necessity of separating solids from liquid and forming agglomerates (pellets, briquettes) from fine particles for further metallurgical processing • the role of solid and liquid feeding and handling machines in a beneficiation plant and select the appropriate machine • the role and necessity of sampling and control of machines and circuits in a beneficiation plant • the methods of disposing of beneficiation waste in heaps and dams • be able to understand the possibility of applying the same or similar principles in the separation of solid waste.
