Learning Outcomes : The course is about providing knowledge for the Design of VLSI Systems. It includes theory that covers a wide range of methodologies and techniques necessary for the efficient Design of these Systems. The course also includes practical Laboratory Exercises for the application and consolidation of the theory. The course material aims to introduce students to the basic concepts and techniques of VLSI technology. It includes the design of Digital circuits in CMOS-VLSI technology. In particular, it includes the design of basic gates and switches, sequential elements such as Latches, Flip-Flops. It then includes the design of more complex circuits. It also provides the appropriate knowledge for the creation of the physical design (layout) and the Design Rules as well as construction details in the design of masks for the industrial production of Integrated Circuits. Technological Issues such as Delay, Power Consumption, Interconnections, Scaling, Process Variation, Reliability are also analyzed. Finally, the Verilog hardware description language is presented theoretically and practically in the design of complex VLSI systems. The aim of the course is for students to understand CMOS-VLSI Technology and how to design circuits and systems based on this technology. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: • Understand the basic concepts and techniques of VLSI technology. • Be able to design basic gates, switches, sequential elements such as Latches, Flip-Flops in CMOS-VLSI technology. This then includes the design of more complex circuits. • Have knowledge of the tools and techniques for studying and designing a complex combinational or sequential Digital Circuit - System in CMOS-VLSI technology. • Designs the physical layout of the above Circuits-Systems. • Calculates parameters such as Delay, Power Consumption in CMOS-VLSI Circuits-Systems. • Knows issues of Integrated Circuits-Systems manufacturing technology. • Is able to design a Digital System in Verilog Hardware Description Language.
