Learning Outcomes : After the successful completion of the course, students will be able to: - Understand the electrical and optical properties of III-V semiconductors - Understand the operating principles of high frequency electrical devices - Understand the operating principles of optical devices
The course deals with all major III-V based electronic and optical devices which are mainly employed in high frequency telecommunications circuits. In particular, the areas covered are: 1) Electronic properties of III-V semiconductors such as GaAs (energy bands, transport properties, optical properties etc.). 2) The GaAs MESFET 3) The HEMT (high electron mobility transistor) 4) Microwave devices 5) Photodetectors and Photodiodes (LEDs) 6) Semiconductor lasers 7) Photovoltaic devices
