Learning Outcomes : Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: • recognize and describe the characteristics and classification codes of waste • recognize, describe and distinguish the appropriate methods for characterizing hazardous waste, as well as their storage and transport methods. • know, describe and distinguish the appropriate physicochemical, biological and thermal methods for treating and neutralizing hazardous waste. • apply the method of stabilization-solidification of hazardous waste. • apply the appropriate techniques for characterizing waste hazards. • have knowledge of environmental policy and legislation for the management of special waste: End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs), used tires, Excavation, Construction and Demolition Waste (ECDW), Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), Waste Lubricating Oils (WLO), waste batteries and accumulators, agricultural and livestock waste, hospital waste. • describe and link the management – treatment of waste and material recovery. • know, describe and apply the treatment of biodegradable waste and the production of new products • become familiar with EU actions for the implementation of the circular economy • know, describe and apply the methodology of Life Cycle Assessment. • collaborate with their fellow students to present a group report/assignment on solid waste management practices and propose optimal management methods.
