Learning Outcomes : Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: • Select appropriate support measures for the prevailing geotechnical tunneling conditions and calculate their bearing capacity. • Calculate the support of individual blocks in fractured rocks and bedded roofs in stratified rocks. • Calculate stresses and deformations and determine failure zones around underground openings in different geotechnical conditions. • Understand and calculate the interaction between the rock mass or soil with the installed support. • Analyze typical stability problems in underground excavations and design support to address them. • Successfully communicate with other engineers, geologists, designers, and contractors involved in the design and construction of an underground project.
