The course introduces students to the main areas of research in contemporary Western philosophy. Initially, it clarifies what philosophy is - what are its characteristic goals and methods and how it differs from other fields. Then, an overview of different areas of philosophy is carried out, such as Ethics, Epistemology, Philosophy of Mind, Ontology, Philosophy of Technology investigating the basic questions/issues they address. Reviewing these issues aims at underlying the importance of systematic philosophical inquiry in relation to everyday life but also in relation to more specialized areas of research.
