Learning Outcomes : The student will acquire skills, knowledge and understanding in: 1) Full understanding of binary phase diagrams in alloys 2) Knowledgeable of the most important phase transformations, the development of resulting microstructures and the importance of nucleation and growth in solid-state phase transformations 3) To demonstrate skills in using phase diagrams to explain or predict resulting microstructures in alloys 4) To correlate process conditions with microstructure and thus obtained properties.
