4121b Special Topics in Building Technology 6
6th Semester AR
ECTS : 3
Language : el, en
Learning Outcomes : Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: • Acknowledge all issues related to bioclimatic and sustainable design. • Understand the fact that bioclimatic design systems require, in addition to qualitative, quantitative / experimental documentation regarding their efficiency. • Apply analytical and / or experimental procedures to calculate the optimal energy behaviour of passive heating and cooling systems. • Analyse in quantitative terms the contribution of bioclimatic design systems to improving comfort conditions and energy efficiency of buildings. • Combine and evaluate the parameters of sustainable and bioclimatic design within the framework of architectural design. •Evaluate bioclimatic and environmental design systems using appropriate software programs.
Emphasis on bioclimatic and sustainable environmental design issues through a series of lectures, which concern sustainability, climatology and urban microclimate, thermal comfort, daylighting, green installations and RES and finally sustainable energy upgrades of buildings. At the same time, through the laboratory part of the course, the theoretical topics are correlated and their individual elements are quantitatively documented. More specifically, on-site instrumental measurements are carried out, while with the use of modelling and simulation software (Design Builder/Energy Plus), all the parameters that contribute to the optimal bioclimatic, thermal, environmental and energy behaviour and operation of a building are investigated and quantitatively evaluated. At the same time, the performance and contribution of various passive and active systems to the improvement of thermal and visual comfort conditions is evaluated. The main objective of the course is for students to understand how architectural design and building technology can incorporate the principles of bioclimatic and environmental design in a creative and aesthetically pleasing way.
