The laboratory exercises include the following: • Muscle function and electromyography recording. • Physiology of the heart and electrocardiogram. • Physiology of the brain and electroencephalogram. • Monitoring systems for vital signs in an intensive care unit. • Study of biological samples using an Atomic Force Microscope (AFM). • Measurement of technical characteristics in ultrasound imaging. • Imaging microscopy study of photodynamic effects on red blood cells. • Laser scanning confocal microscopy for bioimaging at the cellular and tissue level.

Learning Outcomes : Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: – Understand the fundamental concepts and principles related to key areas of Biomedical Technology, such as: a) the acquisition, analysis, and processing of biomedical signals, and b) basic medical instruments directly related to Electrical Engineering. – Develop critical thinking by analyzing and solving various case studies associated with biomedical topics and problems relevant to engineering. – Produce measurable results that can be applied in authentic conditions. – Apply, as engineers, fundamental techniques and tools used in Biomedical Technology in areas such as basic biosignals (electrocardiogram, electromyogram), ultrasound imaging, and microscopy. – Integrate their technological background with the field of health sciences. – Collaborate effectively with others to achieve a common learning objective (completion of a group assignment).
