The course focuses on the creation of digital representations of buildings on the computer with the help of 3D visualization programs and attempts to highlight the tool as a means to further explore and understand architectural composition. As a means to achieve the goal of the course, learning the basic features of digital 3D space, as well as the basic tools available in most 3D representation programs is used. Using these skills students will work by selecting one of the relevant 3D modelling programs available in the Simulation Laboratory. Specifically, students will be asked to create the 3D model of the building they have designed in the 7th semester composition course and to investigate its structural composition, along with the further elaboration of the topic, in the 8th semester composition course during the same period.

Today the most difficult thing seems to be to define the work of art, despite the fact that the real problem is just the opposite: it no longer makes any sense to ask whether a work can be art, since the answer is always in the affirmative ( if an “artist” has defined it as such). As Boris Groys writes, a work of art cannot today be “produced” as such, only presented as such. Or, as Danto says, “nothing is a work of art without the interpretation that will make it so”. But today works of art vibrate much more than any conceptual definition or visual vocabulary, by their stock market character. Is it worth wondering if we will ever again be able to see a Van Gogh or Picasso painting as art rather than a stock market value? Erwin Panofsky observes that it is almost impossible to determine scientifically what is the decisive moment when a manufactured object becomes a work of art, that is, what is the moment ὀwhen form prevails over function. This course will attempt to chart the cataclysmic philosophical changes that have occurred in the artistic century from the beginning of the 20th century to the present.

The course attempts an introduction to theories of gender and space, aiming to unveil ambiguities and difference in the constitution of these concepts. It aims to problematise the ways in which gender identities permeate the organization, design and production of space and at the same time bring to the fore the gendered character of many dominant hypotheses about space and design, at scales relating to urban space and to the multiplicity of everyday life.

The scope is the analytical and synthetic study of the urban space and the formulation of scenarios for the management of critical spatial problems. The course combines theory, methodology and research using contemporary methods of spatial analysis. Main areas of referencetheories, perceptions and practices of planning and development; spatial analysis of elements/phenomena (i.e. observation, recording, correlation, assessment, management and monitoring); thematic mapping and simulation models. Particular attention will be paid to familiarising students with the practical dimension of planning through thematic workshops on current spatial issues such asprotection-management of the natural, cultural and built environment; infrastructure planning (i.e. production, services, technology, social); regeneration of vulnerable areas and specific categories of space (e.g. urban, coastal, island, mountain); spatial governance and participatory planning. Thus, in the context of green and blue growth, we move from theoretical discourse to creative action at the local level, combining theory and practice.

The elective course focuses on spatial issues and the “new” components of planning: the socio-economic dynamics of urban and “extraurban” space. It is structured in thematic directions of deepening, highlighting a series of critical parameters of transformation, of the wider metropolitan area of Athens, as well as of the other urban centers of the Greek region, in the last decades: The “extraurban” space in progress. Contradictions, conflicts, dilemmas. Re-composing urban, “extraurban”, metropolitan area; spatial ensembles with strong peculiarities and differences in the “extraurban” area. The course covers, among others, the following topics/cognitive units‘ Conceptual background of the environment and landscape. ‘ Dominant environmental problems and environmental and landscape management problems in urban areas. Objectives, methodologies and design tools. The course has a seminar character and is organized around two main axes. The first is a series of presentations by the teachers, which aim to approach and analyse, through examples, specific concepts, institutions, procedures, problems, policies, etc. for each of the above-mentioned sections of the course, but also to offer triggers to the participating students for reflection, research and discussion. The second axis focuses on the students themselves, who, drawing on the above presentations, but also based on their personal concerns, opinions and positions, will have the opportunity to explore theoretical and/or practical issues / aspects of the environment and landscape, starting from central Athens, which will be used as a case study for the needs of the course. These explorations will be presented and discussed during the course and will gradually feed into a short written and/or design/composition project, which is the final deliverable for the successful completion of the course.

This course examines plans of public performances, related to different personal and common thresholds or conceptual and physical borders in the city, as nomadic practices which are based on a specific situation of the field. The bodily acts (praxis) is the outcome of the experience and at the same time can be performed as a critical research for new contents, intervening for the emergence of small topical public spheres, thus transforming the public to a new discursive place. These discussions touch the roles of the genders and race, which are fundamental for the formulation of the concept of the ‘new genre public art’, the ‘socially engaged art’, the ‘community based art’, the ‘relational art’ or the ‘dialogical art’, etc. Our concern focuses on the historic situation of public performance, of events and happenings, and on the other hand to the everyday life of bodily activities on the expression of social routines, the oral and speech acts, the walk art, the street art, or other historical art movements of protest actions (such as art activism, culture jamming, tactical media, sport art, border art, travel art, etc.), using these actions at parallel a number of art tactics. We also discuss about the ethics and aesthetics of co-production and equal distribution of the artwork, as well as different thoughts in art history, such as the autonomous art object, the role of institutional critique, and the instituting critic under the framework of art or without this. We demand site-generic actions as relational public interventions, oriented to the specific social place (topos), to the public fantasies and to the personal memories, which take into account the special context, the conditions of place, and at the same time are in conversation to the physical literal and virtual space (the data space, the expanded informational field or the functional site). -The course explores the performance of a public nomadic field act as personal critical research and as an act correlated with the conceptual contents of places and sites to develop new aesthetic experiences. The intervention seeks to engage self with the context of place, social and physical location, memory and emergent experience. -The course considers theoretical issues of institutional critique within the context of autonomous art, critical art institutions and the establishment of institutions of critique (beyond the art world), and comments on examples of somatic field acts from the ethical point of co-production and distribution.

By the term visual mass communication medium we refer to a personalised type of visual object that can transmit an informative, deterrent or provocative message, drawing content mainly from the field of advertising, everyday life or politics. The associative extension of the text, the personal or collective containers of memory the lived experience of the social and residential territory of a? Place (city, landscape, journey) are some of the elements that will compose the content, meanings and conceptual origin of each sentence. The vocabulary and syntax of visual language combined with the narrative structure and entropy of artistic practice will become the tools for the production and understanding of the “image” as a construction and will redefine our visual perception in the environment of everyday life.

The importance of on-site mapping and recording of the existing situation is particularly important because it constitutes an intensive effort to understand and evaluate this organic whole that constitutes each traditional building, with all its individual architectural, morphological, constructional and functional elements.
